My favorite cereal at the moment is Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds. The other varieties are good, but not as good as this one! I was at Walmart last week and saw that they have a store-brand version of this cereal. Now, I’m all for lower prices and sales, but I wasn’t sure how it would compare to the Post cereal. I had to buy both and try taste them to see which one I like better.
Post Honey Bunches of Oats is delicious. (See the left side in the image above) It has the right amount of sweetness, the perfect size of almond slices and enough clusters for that great crunch. The Great Value version of “Crunchy Honey Oats” was too sweet and hardly had any almonds (and the ones that are in there are tiny). The oats were too flat and spread out. It felt like I was eating Corn Flakes with sugar poured on top and some clusters (not that many).
The nutrition facts and calorie counts are pretty much the same when comparing both cereals. A tiny bit more fat in Post, a few more carbs and sugar in Great Value. At my last shopping trip, I purchased Honey Bunches of Oats for $2.78. Great Value’s Crunchy Honey Oats was $1.98.
My preference goes to Honey Bunches of Oats. The Walmart brand feels like I’m eating a cheapo imitation, and it does not satisfy my cereal craving as Post does. A quick poll from the hubby mirrored my opinions. I will not be purchasing Great Value cereal, I’d rather pay a little bit more (80¢ more, but maybe less with a coupon) and have a good quality, good tasting cereal for my mornings.
I was not compensated or reimbursed in any way for this review. All opinions are mine.
